DAILY FIVE-- A NEW PROGRAM THAT YOUR STUDENT IS LEARNING. IT INCLUDES 1. READING TO YOURSELF 2. WRITING 3. WORK WITH WORDS 4. READ TO SOMEONE 5. LISTEN TO READING. The program has independent timed actitivites that your child does while teacher is working with reading groups. It teaches your child independent learning, staying on task, working quietly and reading/writing stamina. We have been learning each step and building our on-task stamina each week. We started at 3 minutes and now 4 weeks later we are up to 15 minutes of on-task learning! I am so proud of them! Just this last week, the students were given free choice as which activity to do first and marked the chart accordingly. We usually get to only 2 choices per morning, during our Language Arts time. They are encouraged to do all five activities per week.
MINUTE MATH FACTS- Another program our class is using for learning basic math facts. This month we are learning Addition Math Facts- 1- 20. Each students is given a rocket chart to mark their progress. The chart goes from A-Z. The goal is the number of problems that they can complete in one minute (a pre-test is given a beginning of year to determine individual goals). As each student meets their goal, they color in the level and move on. All of the students are doing great.
INCENTIVE CHARTS- Your child has 2 incentive charts (3 if you include math)- 1st chart gets a sticker if agenda is signed and homework completed. 2nd chart gets a sticker if child has read his book and reading his/her best in class. 5 stickers in a row gets a prize from the box!
GOLD COINS- School wide- gold coins are given for good behavior, work completed, and being green all day. We have classroom goals and school goals-met the goal and good things happen!!
